How do I add printers?

In the interest of making everyone’s lives a little easier, the way you add and use printers has changed. Here’s what that looks like:

  1. Find the shiny new shortcut on your Desktop that looks like this:

  2. If you can't find the shortcut, open File Explorer and navigate to \\print
  3. Double-click on the shortcut, and see a folder like this:

  4. Find the printer(s) you want, Right-Click, and choose Connect:


  1. If you see a message asking for Administrator Credentials when adding a printer, it is because the Drivers were not installed correctly. Please put in a ticket with your Computer name at https://helpdesk.philomath.k12.or.us


  1. That’s it. There may not be any window that pops up, or any confirmation.


There are a few other things to note here:

  • Printers now default to Grayscale. (Color prints are 10x more expensive.)

  • Printers that support duplex (double-sided) will default to duplex. (Single-sided printing is 2x as expensive.)

The following are now logged & recorded securely for metrics & troubleshooting: 

  • Who printed

  • When they printed

  • What printer they printed to

  • Title of the document printed*

  • Number of pages

  • Color or grayscale

  • Duplex or single-sided

*The Content of what was printed is not saved or logged.
