Contacts
Pressing the second Line Key (The ones directly under the screen of the phone)...
…will bring you to a list of everyone in the district, along with their extensions:
(Everyone gets assigned a phone number, even staff who don’t have a phone, so don’t be alarmed if you see a few weird names in here.)
You can simply press the up and down buttons until you find the right person, then press the checkmark button to call them:
…however, unless their name starts with A, that’s a lot of button presses.
Luckily there are two good ways to narrow the list down:
Filter by location:
Pressing the Filter button will bring up a list-of-lists, so to speak. One for each school/location:
You can choose a list using the up and down buttons on the phone, and press the checkmark button in the middle to confirm:
Now you will only see a list of people for the location you chose. You can again, use the up and down buttons to choose a person, then press the checkmark button to call them.
Search:
You may also simply type the name. This can be done by typing the numbers on the pinpad once you're on the contact screen. You may have noticed the letters on the keypad:
If you’re old enough to remember trying to text on a flip phone, this is a little different.
You do NOT need to press a key more than once for a letter.
Let’s say we are looking for Steve (You can search for a last name as well.)
To type the letter S, you’d press 7
Then for T, you’d press 8
Then for E, you’d press 3
Then for V you’d press 8 again
Then for E you’d press 3 again
Now, in the search bar up top, it won’t say “STEVE” it’ll say “78383”
That’s OK! The system knows “78383” can also mean “STEVE”. As you type, the list will get smaller and smaller. If there are multiple numbers still in the list, just use the up & down buttons to select the right number, then press the Checkmark button to call.
Another small note: The contact names for Generic/Shared numbers always start with the school’s three letter acronym. e.g. Typing 747 (for PHS) in contacts should bring up all generic numbers for PHS (PHS Office, PHS Attendance, etc.)
Forwarding / Transfers
On the left hand side are a few buttons, one of which is a phone, pointing an arrow to a smaller phone. This is the transfer button!
To transfer a call, you can press this button and either:
Dial an extension with the dialpad (To transfer directly to someone's voicemail, dial * and then their extension)
OR…Maneuver through the contacts menu, and choose a number that way.
Once the party you wish to transfer to is selected, a green transfer button appears. Press the button to transfer the call.
Dialing External
It is no longer required to dial 8, then the country code (usually 1) then the 10-digit number to call external lines. Now you can simply dial the 10-digit number.
For example, calling LBLESD from a district phone used to mean dialing 8-1-541-812-2600
Now it’s just 541-812-2600
How cool is that?
